Demonstration
Let’s create a Gallery from found images
A very cool and useful feature in Flickr is to create galleries. Galleries are a great way to organize images found into one location to be shared, commented on, and annotated. Galleries are different from sets (which we talked about in the previous section). Galleries can not contain your images. They are made up of images from other members. Sets are a collection of your images.
We will start this section of the demonstration at the “You” page. This page contains all of your products in Flickr. Your images, sets, galleries, favorites, archives are found on this page. By the way, notice that the set we created has now been added to my “You” page.

I am going to show you a gallery I created as an example. I want to explain a few features of the gallery so you may have a better idea of the images you want for your gallery and how to use it.
This is a Virtual Zoo field trip. You can load up to 18 images into a gallery. At the top you arrange the images in the order you want them. As you scroll down this page, you would find all the images displayed as the polar bear is. You can write a description of the image, and why you chose it to be in your gallery. At the bottom of the page, you and any one else can comment on the gallery.
You can also click on each individual image in the gallery.
When you click on an individual image in the gallery, you are given all the information of the original artist that captured the shot. No copy right issues are involved when creating a gallery. You can click on this person’s photostream. This is this person’s “You” page. You can leave comments about this image and read the comments people have left about this image. This is not comments about your gallery; it is comments left on the artist’s site. Notice the map. Most people geotag their images. You can see where in the world this image was taken. You can add this photographer as a contact and so on. Also, right above the image there are three drop down menus (Favorite, Actions, and Share this). I will discuss these features in the next section. Just remember that you can perform these functions on the images in your gallery or any gallery you visit.
Making your gallery only takes a few steps.
You start by searching for images in the “Explore” tool located in the navigation tool bar at the top of the page.

I typed in “Flowers of the world” in the search bar. Flickr is basically a large data base of images that can be searched. Like all searches, it may take some tries to find what you are looking for. This speaks of the importance of adding clear accurate descriptions and tags on your images to make them more searchable.
The results of my search for individual images were mixed. I did find a group with “flowers” as their theme. I will click on that group and look for my images.
Click on one of the images. Click on the Actions drop down menu found above the image. Select add to gallery. Create a new gallery.
You have now created a new gallery. Be sure to click on the icon for the gallery you just created and then done to add this first picture to your gallery. Repeat these steps for up to 18 images to create your gallery. Let’s review the steps real quick. Click on the individual image you want to add to your gallery. Click on the Action drop down menu above the image. Click on Add to gallery. Select your gallery and then the Done button.
Navigate back to the “You” page and click on the Galleries button. You will see the gallery you just created.

Remember, you can add descriptions and comment on the images in your gallery.
Before, I mentioned that there are features for interacting with individual images. This next section will explain some of the ways you can interact with the images.
