Getting started
To create a Flickr account or to Sign in, you simply click the following link.
http://www.flickr.com/
http://www.flickr.com/
You can click on the Take the Tour link. This is a self guided tour through some of the features in Flickr. The tour is an okay way to get introduced to the website and many of its features. Within the tour, there are many hyperlinks to further explore any one feature you want to focus on. You can breeze through a general tour or dig deep into any area you are most interested in.
The Take the Tour link is a good tutorial; and there are a few tutorials online about specific functions within Flickr. Most of them are adequate t. But, I really believe that the best approach to learning how to navigate and to use the many tools available to you, you need to get on the site and explore. Like many other social networking web sites there are a huge number of features and many subtle ways to use and change the features. It is not practical to try to explain them all in a tutorial. If you are familiar with other social networking sites, then you will pick up quickly the social networking aspects of Flickr’s website. The goal of this tutorial is to familiarize you with some of the main pages and functions which I believe to be most helpful to educators and students.
Create Your Account or sign in
If you already have an account, click on the Sign in button and follow the directions. If you are new to Flickr, click on the Create Your Account button.
This is a pretty standard “create your account” page that many sites offer. You need to provide the standard personal information to start an account. I want you to notice some of the options available to you, though.
You can sign in with a previous Yahoo account or create a Yahoo account. You also have the option to sign in with a Facebook or a Google account as well. Flickr will transfer the information from those sites to create your account. This is a relatively new option.
Once you have created an account and are signed in, Flickr gives you a home page. Your home page will look similar to this. This is my home page.
